»Visual Music« is an attempt to visualize and communicate patterns found in classical compositions for the piano. It was created in early 2006 as a two week intermediate project on music and sound visualization. Digital musical data is analyzed by custom software to visualize melodic and rhythmic patterns in time with a special focus on intervals and harmonics. Red circles along the vertical axis represent notes in time with their pitch mapped to the horizontal axis (so C1 to the very left, C8 to the very right). The length of each note is shown through the size of each circle. Finally, white lines are drawn from the top of the piece to each note to communicate the interval to it‘s predecessor, marking abstract balances of harmonic occurrences (Unison to the very left, Octave to the very right).Due to the enormous potential I see in this topic and my interest and grown capabilities in terms of analysis and representation through software, this project is still under further developement.
»Visual Music« was presented at the exhibition of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam promoting the Interface Design programme as one of Germany‘s places of innovation.
「ビジュアル・ミュージック」は、ピアノのクラシックの楽曲に見られるパターンを目に見える形にして伝えようと、2006年の初め、２週間の短期｢音楽と音響のビジュアル化｣プロジェクトとして制作したものです。デジタル音楽のデータは、音と音の間隔やハーモニーに気を配り、メロディーやリズムのパターンをビジュアル化するカスタムソフトウェアを使って分析しました。縦の軸に沿った赤い円は音符の拍子で、横の軸に描いたピッチと合わせて表現しました。（C1が一番左端で、C8が一番右端になります）それぞれの音の長さは円の大きさで示しました。上部から引かれた白線とそれぞれの音符がつながっていますが、これは前の音符との間隔を示し、ハーモニーが生み出す抽象的なバランス（左端：ユニゾン、右端：オクターブ）を表しています。このトピックの持つ偉大な可能性と個人的な関心、またソフトウェアを使った分析や表現のこれからの発展を信じ、今後もこのプロジェクトをひきつづき開発していきたいと思っています。
「ビジュアル･ミュージック」は、ドイツのイノベーション拠点のひとつであるポツダム・応用科学大学のインターフェイス・デザイン科を広く知ってもらおうと、ポツダム・応用科学大学で開催された展示会に出展しました。
